Over two years ago I posted “Are Facebook and Google Stealing …”
Sure enough, Trudeau’s government has passed this into law, and sure enough, Facebook has understandably, and rightly, chosen to retaliate by blocking links to news and media sites in Canada from any postings containing such links.
Everyone is still free to post or share articles from such sites, but we in Canada will not be able to see those posts.
The media companies advocating for this law did so by lying about the nature of the links, predicting correctly that politicians would not understand and would buy into the con. Any claim that Facebook or others reproduce content is utter nonsense and an outright lie. It is impossible to read a news article posted or shared by others on Facebook except by clicking on the link which transfers you to the media companies own web site. As per my previous article, the only thing Facebook and others are guilty of is driving more traffic to the media sites than they would otherwise be able to get. The media companies want it both ways - make revenue from people visiting their site, and make more revenue from others who help them drive traffic there when it is they who should pay for such services.
